Doctor Maryam Malik was the first lady doctor of Mianwali district. She was born on March 2, 1923, in the town of Deliwali, on the outskirts of Mianwali and her real name was Maryam Khatun. Her father Noor Ahmad was a police inspector.Her personal home is in Sher Afgan Street, Mianwali. She received her early education in Mianwali. She passed her matriculation examination from Government High School, Mianwali in the first division in 1939 under the administration of Punjab University. In 1939, she passed LMS in 1945 from Glance Medical College, Amritsar. She did house Job in Victoria Joe Hospital . She came to Pakistan in 1947. She started working as a Sub-Assistant Surgeon in 1947. Doctor Maryam Malik performed her duties as doctor in Bhakkar and Mianwali area. In Mianwali, she was in charge of Women Sub-Assistant Surgeon in Mianwali, Hospital. She did her MBBS from Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore in 1951. She went to England in 1957 and was the first Pakistani student to graduate in less than a year. M. R. T. degree. She started her service from Nishtar Hospital, Multan in 1959 and in 1975 became a Professor of Radiology.
Dr. Maryam was a very good doctor of her time. Her eloquence and love for the people of the area was ideal. Medical facilities in Mianwali at that time were not of a very high standard. Therefore, patients were taken to Multan for treatment. Dr. Maryam used to help the patient in every possible way. She always dressed up in simple clothes but she had a dignified and kind personality. One of her brothers was in the army while the other was in the teaching profession. Her younger sister Zehra was LHV. She did not marry all her life and devoted her life to serving the people in the true sense of the word. Doctor Maryam Malik built a private house in Bhakkar and lived there with her mother and a sister after retirement.. Dr. Maryam Malik died on June 24, 1988 at the age of just 65.
